GOVERNEMENT GETS INVOLVED AS HEAVY RAINS CAUSE ADVERSE EFFECTS IN LIMBE
The recent exceptional rains that swept across the Limbe municipality causing unprecedented floods and landslides that claimed 3 lives, is a major concern to the government.
The Minister of Housing and Urban Development Mrs. Celestine KETCHA COURTES dispatched a delegation from Yaounde to limbe for a better appraisals of the situation and seek solutions.
Limbe City Mayor Dr. Paul EFOME received the delagation Thursday August 6th 2026 shortly after completing a field work to assess the effects of the heavy rains that hit his municipality.
The MINHDU Team headed by Mr. TANKEU Fulbert shared the compassion of the minister following the devastating climatic incident. He explained their visited of some affected areas and made observations. Amongst them;
– that gutters and culverts within the municipality had become obsolete and could no longer carry the volume of run offs in this contemporary.
– that the municipality lacked primary and secondary drainage systems, just to mention but these.
Recommendations for long term actions include need to construct a major canalisation to help chanel water during floods. On this, the delegation was pleased as the city mayor presented complete studies for this project.
For short term actions; four culverts have been identified which will be replaced by bridges. The construction of gutters in some strategic sites, rehabilitation of potholes and the acquisition of heavy duty machines.
Dr. Paul EFOME said the LCC has made efforts to mitigate floods and landslides, including the dredging of water canals within the GIRIN project, waste disposal sensitisation and the current Update of the Limbe Urban Master Plan.
The head of the MINHDU team expressed satisfaction with the details obtained on the ground and promised to diligently présent them to the Minister once in Yaounde.
