Flood Damage Assessment Commission visit “Malabo” Quarter.

The Flood Damage Assessment Commission has entered its second day of fieldwork in Kumba I Municipality, with the team visiting Bu Ekemue Quarter, in an area popularly known as Malabo, to assess the extent of destruction caused by the torrential rains recorded last week.

Images captured during the exercise reveal the massive impact of the floods, with several block houses and apartments severely damaged or brought down by floodwaters.

Among those badly affected is a trader popularly known as Nawain, who sells honey and other natural oils in front of a newspaper kiosk around the Kumba Central Police Station. She reportedly lost her home, 20 drums of honey, castor oil, neem oil, money and household furniture to the floods.

Several other families in the area also suffered significant losses, with household belongings and important documents reportedly destroyed or swept away by the floodwaters.

Note that, the ongoing assessment is expected to provide a clearer picture of the human and material cost of the disaster and guide authorities in identifying appropriate measures to support affected families and prevent similar devastation in the future.
