NW CPDM seeks to maintain dominance

The Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement, CPDM, in the North West Region is stepping up preparations ahead of the upcoming municipal and parliamentary elections, with the party seeking to consolidate its structures and maintain its political dominance in the region.
The move follows directives from the party hierarchy aimed at strengthening political structures and intensifying grassroots mobilisation in preparation for the elections.
The party, over the weekend in Bamenda organised a series of seminars as part of planning and preparations towards giving the party a landslide victory at the legislative and municipal elections that may be organized before the end of the year or early next year.
The seminars that kick-started on Friday August 21, 2026 with the regional training was chaired by Philemon Yang, North West CPDM Regional coordinator. The regional training that took place at the congress hall brought together party bigwigs of the region, central committee members, members of government, parliamentarians, mayors, section presidents and other party militants.
On Saturday August 22, the seven divisions that make up the NW Region, at different locations in Bamenda were intensively drilled on the quality of candidates that the base and investiture committees would want to present.
The criteria for the selection and presentation of candidates underlined the fact that candidates must be accepted by the party base.
They must not only be accepted, they must be people who are available, credible and viable. Meaning they must be financially independent to be able to support the party and be supported by the party too. They must equally be popular, dynamic and versed with managerial skills to be able to manage public funds.This criteria, they said was especially for councillors and potential candidates vying for mayoral posts.
As for parliamentary candidates, they outlined a trajectory. They stated that it must be someone who knows how to deal with different ministerial departments in order to get the best projects for their constituencies. Must also be somebody with a bit of knowledge on international issues, to avoid embarrassment if they find themselves in international affairs commissions.
In conclusion they called on candidates to check their eligibility and know that they are called to serve the community first, with their own interest coming at the second position.
With this in mind, the party left drumming its chest with full confidence that if the candidates respect all guidelines there would be no match during the upcoming local elections.
They said challenges and embarrassments encountered during the last presidential election from opposition parties would not be witnessed any longer after the regional and divisional seminars they have just organized.
The North West Regional coordinator encouraged militants to go out next legislative and municipal elections, campaign and vote for the CPDM.
