Minister Ketcha Courtes receives delegation from LAFAK Association for the 500-unit eco-neighborhood project

The Minister of Housing and Urban Development (MINHDU), Celestine Ketcha Courtes met with a delegation from LAFAK, a Cameroonian diaspora youth association last August 5, 2026 in her cabinet in Yaounde. This meeting was a continuation of discussions regarding the development of a 500-home eco-neighborhood project, based on a sustainable construction approach. This includes the use of local materials, bioclimatic design, and modular architectural solutions adapted to the evolving needs of households.
Key discussion points at the audience included: the project's financing model, the availability and mobilization of the land designated for the project, finalization of the site development plan to evaluate infrastructure, utilities (VRD), and servicing costs and potential State support mechanisms within current regulations.
During the discussion, the Minister reaffirmed the government's interest in projects that improve decent and affordable housing while respecting Cameroon's climate. However, she stressed that the project's success depends on solidifying its technical, financial, and legal foundations. Both parties agreed to continue technical consultations to remove remaining bottlenecks.
However, she noted that the realization of a project of this magnitude remains conditional on solidifying its technical, financial, and legal foundations, as well as demonstrating its contribution to the vision of the Head of State, H.E. Paul Biya.
At the end of the meeting, the various parties agreed to continue technical consultations to resolve the identified bottlenecks and collaboratively explore solutions to advance the project in accordance with national housing and sustainable urban development guidelines.
