Fako Divisional follow-up committee deplores low project execution rate

The Fako Divisional Follow-Up Committee has expressed concern over the low rate of project execution in the Division for the 2026 fiscal year.
Addressing stakeholders recently, the Vice President of the Fako Divisional Follow-Up Committee, Hansel Ekwa Itoe, said the physical execution rate stands at 29.90% while the financial execution rate stands at 8.33%.
He, however, attributed the poor execution rate to the heavy rains and called on stakeholders to do their best to meet the prescribed standards and deadlines.
It is worth noting that Fako Division has been allocated 3 billion CFA francs for 2026, compared to 2 billion CFA francs allocated last year. The Vice Chair expressed optimism that project execution will pick up once the rains subside.
Earlier, the Vice Chair admonished stakeholders to avoid poorly executed projects and reminded mayors, divisional delegates, and service heads of the need to closely monitor all projects under their supervision.
He also called on them to provide vote holders with the technical support needed to succeed in the execution of projects in their municipalities.
He further urged all actors, especially mayors, engineers, and contractors, to mobilize effectively and define the Terms of Reference for stakeholders in the execution chain.
Meanwhile, statistics presented by the Fako Divisional Delegate for Planning and Regional Development, Pascaline Bessong, indicate that Idenau Council tops the performance list in the division for 2026 with 72%.
Limbe III comes second with 46%, Muyuka Council is third, Limbe I has dropped to fourth position, Limbe II is fifth, Buea Council is sixth, and Tiko is seventh. Limbe City Council occupies the last position.
Stakeholders also identified major challenges hindering the smooth execution of projects, including: Delays in contract registration, non-compliance with time frames, difficulties in accessing the project platform, poor internet connection, heavy rains, among others.
In his remarks, the First Assistant SDO, Awah Dean, frowned at the poor execution rate and called on stakeholders to expedite action in order to meet the prescribed standards and deadlines.
The meeting brought together the Vice President of the Fako Divisional Follow-Up Committee, Hansel Ekwa Itoe, in the presence of the 1st Assistant SDO, Awah Dean, the DO of Limbe I, Innocent Moni Nanje, and other stakeholders.
