SDF filies complaint against Ekondo-Titi police boss
ASP Esong Ebanga William allegedly raided pioneer SDF district chair funeral destroying food, threatening to shoot mourners

The Social Democratic Front (SDF) has accused a senior police officer of violently disrupting the funeral of one of its officials in Ekondo Titi, describing the incident as an act of political intimidation targeting the opposition.
A complaint letter bearing the SDF's official letterhead and addressed to the party's Regional Chairman in Kumba alleges that Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Esong Ebanga William, who is serving as Officer-in-Charge of Public Security in Ekondo Titi on an interim basis, stormed the funeral ceremony of late SDF pioneer District Chairman Arnold Motiti Wilfred on August 1, 2026.
According to the complaint, the police officer, accompanied by other individuals, allegedly destroyed the party's banner, seized the SDF flag, overturned food and drinks prepared for mourners, and disrupted the gathering.
The letter further claims that the officer threatened, harassed and intimidated those present, allegedly warning that anyone who resisted would be "gunned down." The incident reportedly caused panic among mourners and forced the ceremony to end prematurely.
The complaint accuses the officer of invasion, conversion and destruction of property, and calls on the SDF leadership to pursue the matter in the interest of justice.
Copies of the complaint were also addressed to the party's Secretary General and a human rights organisation in Buea.
The incident raises fresh concerns about the treatment of opposition parties in Cameroon, where political actors have repeatedly accused security forces of using excessive force and intimidation to suppress dissent.
