Following the 139th session of the Board of Directors of the National Refining Company SONARA, which held last August 13, the company is sure to restart production in 24 months. In line with a Press Release issued by the Board Chair, Ndoh Bertha Bakata at the close of the session which had as focus to review and adopt the restructuring and reconstruction/rehabilitation plan of SONARA, it states that the board has adopted the preliminary evaluation report of EKUIM Firm, whose findings direct towards a partial restoration of the refinery, rather than a complete reconstruction, as was earlier envisaged.

The new initiative tagged PARRAS 24, according to the release, “is an acceleration measure of the restructuring, reconstruction/rehabilitation plan of SONARA based on three essential aspects, the ultimate goal being the restart of its production unit in 2027.”
The three-phase initiative is programmed in the financial, technical and organisational aspects. “recapitalize SONARA’s equity and establish a financing plan for the project through a new business plan; rehabilitate the production units based on the pre-incident configuration and define and implement a work-force plan aimed at upgrading staff competencies.”
The PARRAS 24 initiative is said to get into effect in January 2026.
The release concludes that, “SONARA reassures the national and international community, its partners, clients and the general public of the continued supply of refined petroleum products in quantity and quality on both the national and international market until its production unit restarts”.
