Five students of Diligent Bilingual Academy Kumba II Subdivision, Meme Division are reported to have been abducted by separatist fighters Tuesday November 6, 2018.
According to eyewitness reports, the unknown gunmen who abducted the school going students around the New Layout neighbourhood took advantage of the drizzling rains that fateful morning to whisk off the students on board two commercial motorcycles to a destination yet to be disclosed.
Those who are reported to have seen the kidnapping of the students dressed in school outfit raised an alarm that drew the attention of the forces of law and order.
The military got to the neighbourhood, shot into the air, forcing locals to remain indoors.
Questions have been raised as to why the students were on their way to school when the day was declared a public holiday. A resident in the area disclosed that, the announcement about the public holiday was not widely advertised and majority of the people only heard about the public holiday by 7:00am when many students had gone to school.
Though no official statement has been made by the school authorities on the alleged abduction, reports say that forces of law and have launched a manhunt to crack down the abductors.
As we went to press, no group had claimed responsibility for the alleged abduction.
