BRAVE Media to launch Cameroon Media Watch Fact Checking

BRAVE Media to launch Cameroon Media Watch Fact Checking platform

Brave Media, an international media consortium, will in the coming days launch the Cameroon Media Watch Fact-Checking Platform to promote ethical journalism and professional standards in reporting.

The announcement was made at the end of a one-day regional training for youth and women journalists held Saturday, July 25, 2026 in Kumba, chief town of Meme Division, South West Region. The training was organized under the project: _“Voices for Freedom: Strengthening Media Resilience and Civic Participation in Cameroon".

Welcoming participants, the Field Assistant for the Meme Brave Media project, Vagoga Mary Salle said the training was organized by project owner Fondation Hirondelle and partners including Cameroon Community Media Network, CCMN, BBC Media Action and co-funded by the European Union

Giving an overview of the BRAVE program, Vagoga Mary Salle explained that the program aims to promote fundamental freedoms and strengthen civic and political space in Cameroon by fostering independent, pluralistic, and resilient media that empowers youth, women, and underserved communities.

She disclosed that project outputs include:  Training 120 youth and women journalists, Establishing and equipping 5 regional media labs, Producing 50 radio programs and podcasts, Launching the Cameroon Media Watch fact-checking platform and Organizing 10 civic dialogue forums

Participants were drilled on:  

Ethical journalism and professional standards, peace journalism, fact-checking and verification techniques, countering misinformation and disinformation, digital journalism, mobile reporting, and multimedia storytelling.

The training was facilitated by media consultant  Innocent Yuh, Editor-in-Chief of Kingdom Radio Kumba, and Talla Aghaa Christopher Esq., a communicator with over a decade of experience. Sessions included practical exercises on analyzing news stories using conflict-sensitive reporting principles and developing story ideas.

Reacting to the knowledge acquired, Rolantine Engwari, a journalist with Ocean City Radio, Kumba, hailed BRAVE Media for the opportunity. She appealed for more of such training and promised to put the skills into practice.

She was corroborated by Nkamkeu Ange Auryole of Le Mutation Quotidien and Kingdom Radio, Kumba.
